Judith Weiler – writer/producer

JUDITH WEILER (*1986) is a Cologne-based writer, producer, and founder of BUTTERFILM.
She began her writing career at a small-town newspaper (DONAUZEITUNG) in rural southern Germany before taking a detour to study literature and communication in Erfurt. She then worked as an assistant director and producer on various film and TV productions, while training as an international producer at the Internationale Filmschule Köln. In 2015, she founded BUTTERFILM with a scholarship. Judith is an alumna of the Rotterdam Lab 2017 and EAVE PUENTES 2020/21. She honed her screen writing skills in classes of Keith Cunningham, Pilar Alessandra, Scott Myers, Morgan Gendel, and Brent Forrester.
During the pandemic, she developed and sold her comedy show VIOLETTA — about a personified period — first to pubcaster ZDF and later to WDR (ARD), where it is currently in development. Her romantic thriller series OMERTÀ | ERIKA received development funding by the regional FILM AND MEDIA FUND NRW in the end of 2024.
Under the Butterfilm umbrella — and sometimes beyond — Judith develops TV projects in various shades of comedy, preferably in collaboration with like-minded creatives from around the world. Since 2019, she has also served as a volunteer lay judge (“Schöffin”).
